CFRP will play a role in CNC machining center manufacturing

The Japan Machine Tool Industry Association and the New Energy Industry Technology Development Organization (NEDO) have begun to design a new generation of 5-axis CNC machining. The equipment is expected to use carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) parts this year. After adopting CFRP which is light in weight, not easy to thermal expansion and excellent in vibration absorption, it can greatly improve the energy efficiency of CNC machining center by about 20%, and improve the machining accuracy. It is expected to be practical in 2018. According to Japanese media reports, Japan's OKUMA, FANUC, DMG Mori Seiki and other major machine tool companies have cooperated with a number of Japanese universities, NEDO and other institutions for industry-academia-government cooperation. In the first half of this year, CFRP parts can be analyzed and determined on the computer , and plans to complete the 'standard model' by 2018, when companies can use this as a standard to use CFRP standard parts on their machine tools. Although there are already machine tools with CFRP components such as spindles, this development will start from scratch to design and adjust the CNC machining center as a whole to ensure that CFRP can produce more shapes after replacing metal parts. The proportion of CFRP is relatively light, which is 1/4 of that of iron. CFRP components can save a lot of energy during operation. At the same time, it is not easy to thermally expand, and it is not easy to transfer heat, which can reduce the situation that a part of the machine expands due to heat during processing and reduces the processing accuracy. However, CFRP parts also have many unsolved problems, such as high price and difficulty in combining with other materials.
