The directors of the world's mints gathered in Mexico City to attend the '28th World Mint Director's Meeting' held from May 11 to 17, 2014. Experts discussed topics such as new alloys, colored coins, and enhanced anti-counterfeiting technologies. The conference itinerary also included a visit to the Mexican Mint in San Luis Potosí, which uses dozens of Schuler machines to produce pesos and cents in different sizes. In addition to the conventional blanking lines, edge upsetting and rolling machines and a large number of finishing presses, the plant also has a special piece of equipment: a specially equipped MRV300 metal stamping machine. This is the first precision press capable of 'three-metal coin' production. In contrast to the €1 and €2 coins, the three-metal coin has two outer rings around the inner core instead of one. The machine adopts a vertical design, which can complete the pressing and imprinting operations of coins in only one step. In addition, the Schuler MRV300 stamping press used by the Mexican Mint has a capacity of 500 coins per minute for the production of Yama cultural medals. At this Schuler-sponsored conference, participants further discussed topics such as how the use of tri-metal coins as currency in circulation can improve anti-counterfeiting.
