Nippon Seiko has developed 'NSK Linear Guide Pairs for LIB Manufacturing Equipment' whose components do not contain copper and zinc. The manufacturing line envisaged for lithium-ion rechargeable batteries excludes copper and zinc in order to prevent explosions from mixing in powders of these metals. The goal is to go public in January 2011 and achieve sales of 300 million yen in 2013. In the manufacturing process of lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, if metal powder is mixed into the battery, there is a danger of a fire accident. Therefore, insoluble metal powders such as copper and zinc are strictly controlled on the production line. Since the newly developed linear guide pair does not use copper and zinc, this management burden can be reduced. Specifically, components such as copper-plated and zinc-plated screws and grease injection nozzles in conventional products are made of stainless steel, eliminating the need for electroplating. And also newly developed lubricating oil that does not contain metal elements. Seiko Nippon will exhibit the new products at 'SEMICON Japan 2010' (Duration: December 1-3, 2010, Venue: Makuhari MESSE International Exhibition Center).
