Four universities in the UK have recently led a research on smart sensor systems to in-depth study of sensor systems with higher intelligence and stability, and to explore their future applications in smart cities, big data and autonomous driving. Led by the University of Glasgow, University of Liverpool, University of St Andrews and Imperial College London, the project brings together researchers with expertise in computing, engineering, mathematics, etc. Advanced experience in sensor software, model making and verification, and programming to develop new sensor systems that can be widely used. The University of Glasgow said on the 11th that the sensor system scientific research project is expected to develop technologies such as better water conservancy systems, more responsive air quality monitoring systems, reliable autonomous driving systems and precision manufacturing. One of the project leaders, Maffei Calder, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering at the University of Glasgow, said that although sensors are becoming more and more common in people's daily lives, there are still great uncertainties about the sensors themselves and their working environment. A unified scientific mechanism ensures that the sensor system and the information it provides are adaptable, responsive, reliable and accurate. Through this project, researchers will improve sensor system design and configuration, and will also develop an instant physical sensor testbed for experiments. The research project has been awarded nearly 4.2 million pounds (about 6.11 million US dollars) by the UK Engineering and Physics Research Council, and the research period is until 2021.
