U.S. machine tool sales hit a two-year high in September

Recently, the American Association of Manufacturing Technology (AMT) and the American Machine Tool Distributors Association (AMTDA) announced the latest statistics on the consumption of American machine tools. In September 2010, the number of machine tool orders in the United States was 1,992, an increase of 38.6% over the previous month's 1,437. Among them, the order for metal cutting machine tools was 1,862, and the order for metal forming machine tools was 130. In September 2010, the total consumption of machine tools in the United States was 400 million US dollars, an increase of 66.1% compared with the previous month's 241 million US dollars, and an increase of 156.8% compared with 156 million US dollars in September 2009. From January to September 2010, the cumulative consumption of machine tools in the United States was 2.09 billion US dollars, an increase of 74.1% over the 1.2 billion US dollars in the same period in 2009. From the perspective of product categories, in September 2010, the consumption of metal cutting machine tools in the United States was 364 million US dollars, an increase of 59.2% over the previous month's 229 million US dollars, and a substantial increase of 170% compared with 135 million US dollars in September 2009. The consumption of metal forming and manufacturing machine tools was US$35.58 million, an increase of 196.2% from US$12.01 million in the previous month and an increase of 71% from US$20.81 million in September 2009. From January to September 2010, the consumption of metal cutting machine tools in the United States was 1.938 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 86.7%; the consumption of metal forming and manufacturing machine tools was 152 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 6.4%. Peter Borden, chairman of AMTDA, said: 'September 2010 can be said to be a watershed in the industry from the recession of 2008-2009 to recovery. In September, sales of machine tools in the United States reached 1,992 units, which is the highest value since September 2008. This reflects a rebound in the industry and the dominance that U.S. manufacturing has maintained.'
