Ford Motor has announced that it will invest $150 million to expand its stamping plant in Buffalo, USA, and plans to hire 350 new employees at the plant. The expansion plan includes the following projects: adding 25 new assembly stations at the Buffalo Stamping Plant for the production of hoods, doors and fenders; adding more than 500 new dies and a blanking line; Equipment upgrades to support future product projects. The Ford Buffalo Stamping Plant opened in 1950 and currently employs approximately 650 people. Parts produced at the plant include stamped parts such as doors, side panels, hoods, and fenders for the Ford F-250, F-350, Flex, Edge, Focus and Econoline, as well as the Lincoln MKX and MKT. The Buffalo plant will also supply parts for the next-generation Edge crossover, which will go on sale in the U.S. next year. The next-generation Edge will be built at Ford's current Oakville, Ontario assembly plant, which is less than 100 miles from the Buffalo plant. The expansion will bring the total number of employees at the Buffalo facility to nearly 1,000. Ford set a goal in 2011 to add 12,000 hourly workers in the U.S. by 2015, a goal the company says is now three-quarters of the way there.
