The latest statistics of the US machine tool industry released by the American Association of Manufacturing Technology (AMT) and the American Machine Tool Distributors Association (AMTDA) on August 9 show that from January to June 2010, the cumulative consumption of US machine tools was 1.21 billion US dollars, compared with Year-on-year growth of 56.1%. Among them, the consumption of metal cutting machine tools was 1.12 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 66.5%; the consumption of metal forming and manufacturing machine tools was 92.15 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 10.9%. In June, the total consumption of machine tools in the United States was 240 million US dollars, an increase of 35.8% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 71.1%. Among them, the consumption of metal cutting machine tools was 230 million US dollars, an increase of 36.6% month-on-month and a year-on-year increase of 95.9%; the consumption of metal forming and manufacturing machine tools was 13.2 million US dollars, an increase of 22.5% month-on-month and a year-on-year decrease of 46.3%. AMT chairman Douglas K.Woods said that the increase in US machine tool orders in the first half of this year was mainly due to overseas investment, while domestic demand orders in the aerospace and construction equipment fields also increased significantly.
