Japan launches walking logistics robot that can easily load and unload goods

by:Gewinn     2022-05-10
According to Japanese media reports, a well-known Japanese manufacturer has developed a new type of robot that can move in logistics warehouses and automatically load, unload and handle goods. With 2 flexible arms, loads of various sizes, shapes and weights can be picked from the shelves and then handled. Given that traditional robots are difficult to deal with a variety of goods, this new robot can handle it with ease. With the development of e-commerce, the demand for small-scale handling of various goods is expanding, and the manufacturer strives to officially put it into use in 2 to 3 years. At present, the handling robots actually put into use in logistics warehouses can continuously handle the same shape of cartons and other goods. However, it is still technically difficult to remove a specific item from a box on a shelf, or to move items of many shapes. The structure adopted by this new type of robot is to install two lifting platforms on the mobile flatbed, and then install the manipulator type robot respectively. The top of one robotic arm is equipped with an adsorption device, and the top of the other is equipped with two robotic fingers. After moving to the designated shelf, adjust the height of the lift table, confirm the goods with the camera installed on the robot arm, and pick up the goods in a way that matches its shape and weight. Since the overall structure includes 1 flatbed, 2 lifting platforms and 2 robotic arms, a total of 5 devices, so it can realize a variety of actions. But to work together, each device needs to communicate with each other. During operation, the flatbed uses sensors to measure the distance from the shelf while driving, but only sends a signal to the robotic arm when the distance is 1 meter and needs to work together. By reducing the amount of communication, the operation speed has been improved. From stopping in front of the shelf to taking out the item in the box, it only takes 3 seconds to complete. Japanese media pointed out that with the popularity of e-commerce, the demand for small quantities of various goods is expanding, and the demand for robotic arm robots with strong operating capabilities is huge. The manufacturer will build a system that can operate stably in the actual warehouse, first use it in the company's logistics warehouse, and then consider selling it to other companies.
