Japan's small machine tool orders increased by 33% in April-June 2012

According to the latest statistics from the Japan Precision Machinery Industry Association, Japan's orders for small machine tools from April to June in 2012 increased by 33% over the same period last year, reaching 31.899 billion yen, achieving positive growth for 11 consecutive quarters. Thanks to the good influence of the automotive industry, exports to North America and Southeast Asia are increasing. The cumulative order value in the first half of the year increased by 45.2% compared with the same period of last year, reaching 68,549.77 million yen. The number of orders for small machine tools in Japan from April to June increased by 977 units year-on-year to 3,544 units. Among them, 2494 sets of numerical control (NC) small lathes, with an order value of 18.642 billion yen; 149 CNC small grinders, with an order value of 3.333 billion yen; 97 small machining centers, with an order value of 1.028 billion yen. From April to June, the total export value increased by 71.8% year-on-year to 20.685 billion yen, accounting for 64.8% of the total order value, an increase of 14.6 percentage points over the same period last year.
