Japan to develop sand mold 3D printer as national project

At the 25th Design and Manufacturing Solutions Exhibition, CMET (Headquarters: Tokyo) exhibited the sand molds produced by the trial production machine of the Sand Mold 3D Printer (Sand Mold Deposition Molding Device), which is being developed as a national project. In addition to CMET, the main development body of the project 'TRAFAM (Comprehensive Development Organization for Next-Generation 3D Deposition Molding Technology)' is the Japan Industrial Technology Research Institute, Qunrong Chemical Industry, KOIWAI, Kimura Foundry, Nissan Motor, Komatsu Castex, Members related to sand mold 3D printers such as IHI participated. There are two types of sand molds on display. One is the cylinder head sand mold, which consists of 2 main molds and 11 sand cores. The accuracy is ±70μm, the molding time is 360 minutes, and the post-processing time is 60 minutes. The other is the cylinder sand mold. Consists of 2 main types and 7 sand cores. The dimensional accuracy is also ±70μm, the molding time is 360 minutes, and the post-processing time is 60 minutes. In the future, the company plans to put a prototype into practical use in fiscal 2015, and start selling a sand mold 3D printer with a deposition molding speed of 50,000 cc (50 L)/h in the second half of fiscal 2016. The ultimate goal is to start selling devices with deposition molding speeds of 100,000 cc (100 L)/h from fiscal 2018.
