New breakthrough in 3D printing in the United States is expected to be used in jet engines

It was learned from the Ministry of Science and Technology on January 14 that the HRL Laboratory of the United States reported that the researchers of the laboratory had made a major breakthrough in the field of 3D printing technology. They have developed a new technology that uses 3D printing to create super-strong ceramic materials that can not only have complex shapes, but also withstand high temperatures of over 1,700 degrees Celsius. In the new study, chemical engineer Zach Ecker and chemist Zhou Chaoyin created a resin formulation composed of silicon, nitrogen and oxygen, which was irradiated with a beam of ultraviolet light inside a 3D printer, will make it hard. The resin, known as a ceramic precursor, can be 3D printed into parts of all shapes and sizes, and the printed material transforms into a high-strength, fully dense ceramic when overheated. Tobias Schedler, a materials scientist at HRL's lab, said the new method is 100 to 1,000 times more efficient than previous 3D ceramic printing techniques and 10 times stronger than similar materials. The researchers believe the ultra-strong, high-temperature-resistant ceramic could be used to make large parts in jet engines and hypersonic aircraft, complex components in microelectromechanical systems such as tiny sensors, and more. A-share listed companies such as Guangyunda and Jinyun Laser are involved in 3D printing related business.
