Porsche Acquires KUKA Machine Tool Business to Improve Lightweight Materials Manufacturing Process

Porsche will spend 10 million to 25 million euros to acquire the machine tool business of industrial robot giant KUKA. The cooperation will help Porsche to take the process of manufacturing lightweight materials to a higher level. Porsche AG has acquired the machine tool business unit of industrial robot maker KUKA to boost production of lightweight materials for its sports cars. Porsche and other sports car makers are gradually promoting the use of aluminum, carbon fiber and other lightweight materials, aiming to meet the increasingly stringent carbon emission standards in Europe, China and other regions. According to people familiar with the matter, Porsche's acquisition of the KUKA machine tool business may cost 10 million to 25 million euros. The two companies did not disclose the details of the agreement. The collaboration will help Porsche take the craft of making lightweight materials to the next level. Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller said in a statement that Porsche sports car production has made tremendous progress. A KUKA spokesman said the agreement will be reached on August 1.
