This year's European machine tool output value can reach 2.47 billion euros

European Machine Tool Industry Cooperation Committee (CECIMO) 2008 autumn mobilization meeting was held in Paris, France from October 24th to 25th. The meeting affirmed the good growth of European machine tool industry products this year. It is expected that in 2009, due to the impact of the current global financial crisis on investment, the growth of machine tool products in CECIMO member countries will be flat. The news from the meeting indicated that the products of the member countries of the Committee will continue to grow this year. It is expected that the annual growth rate will be 9% year-on-year, and the output value will reach 2.47 billion euros (2007: 2.27 billion euros). Products from CECIMO member countries will account for 46% of the global machine tool market (44% in 2007), ahead of Japan (18%) and China (15%). According to the analysis at the meeting, 37% of the products produced by the members of the committee this year are sold outside Europe, and exports are expected to increase by 7% this year. In the first half of the year, export markets were mainly the Americas (US and Brazil), Russia and India. The significant growth in exports shows that European machine tools have become a 'sweet pastry' because of their reliable quality and superior performance. The strong support is the heavy investment in research and development.
